The University of Kentucky 2014 Aortic Symposium was held September 4-6, 2014 at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.  The event was a huge success as it highlighted cutting-edge research from bench top to clinical care of those suffering from aortic diseases.   Almost 200 people attended events ranging from an Early Career Program and Networking Reception to Scientific Sessions and an Awards Dinner.

During the Dinner, the University of Kentucky honored two advocates for those individuals suffering from aortic diseases by presenting the 2014 Aortic Symposium Aortic Advocacy Awards.  The honorees were Mary Burchett, MD and Amy Yasbeck.  Mary is native Kentuckian living with Marfans Symdrome.  She has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the disease among physicians as well as the general public.  Amy Yasbeck is an actress and the widow of John Ritter.  Ritter passed away suddenly from an aortic dissection.  Since his death, Yasbeck has worked to raise awareness of the disease through the foundation she set up in his name, The John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health.
