Ultrasound Division
The UK College of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Division is led by Terren Trott, MD, who is dual fellowship trained in ultrasound and critical care. Our division operates a robust and comprehensive program devoted to advancing patient care at the bedside and the education of residents and medical students. We believe clinical application of point-of-care ultrasound is a critical and foundational skill for all emergency medicine trainees and we aim for all of our residents to excel in this field. Residents perform over 3,500 scans annually. At UKEM, we offer a unique ultrasound experience, including:

Opportunities to scan patients on off-service rotations including trauma and ICU months

Numerous resident lecture opportunities

Annual SonoGames competition with University of Louisville and other programs.

Comprehensive and longitudinal ultrasound lecture and hands on curriculum

Weekly QA process that includes resident and attending ultrasound image review, article review and hands on time

UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital emergency department is equipped with 7 Mindray ultrasound machines.

Utilize system wide cloud-based imaging software and ultrasound is fully integrated with our EMR.
