UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital celebrated Emergency Services Week 2021 from October 11th – October 15th. One of the many activities planned for this week included the Emergency Services Annual Awards, where staff from the Emergency Department recognized their peers for the outstanding service they provide to our patients. This ceremony was held on October 11, 2021 via Zoom. There were over 100 nominations in 11 categories. This year's awards were especially significant as the inaugural Henry Thurman Award was presented. This award, named after the late EVS shift supervisor known hospital-wide for his big grin and kind spirit, was created to honor an ED employee that demonstrate kindness, compassion, and a commitment to teamwork. The first award was dedicated posthumously to Henry himself.
Other awards presented were to honor nurses, techs, RTs, and pharmacists in the Emergency Department for their contributions over the past year. We are proud of our program's top honorees:
Dr. Blake Davidson, MD was honored as the Emergency Department Resident of the Year. Dr. Michael Sweeney, MD was awarded Emergency Department Attending of the Year.
