About the UK Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship

The Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship offers advanced training in global health systems, humanitarian response, tropical medicine, and international health education. Designed for emergency physicians seeking to lead and shape emergency care in resource-limited settings, this one- to two-year program is tailored to each fellow’s specific career goals.

Program Overview

Fellows participate in a structured curriculum, international fieldwork, and interdisciplinary collaboration. With mentorship from experienced global health faculty, fellows engage in program development, education, and capacity building across international sites.

 

Curriculum Highlights

Global Health Training Courses

Fellows take coursework aligned with their global health focus. Options include:

  • Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
    Courses leading to a Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM&H), such as:
    • Gorgas Diploma Course
    • Professional DTM&H (Liverpool, London, Bangkok)
    • Courses approved by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
  • Humanitarian and Disaster Medicine
    Options include:
    • Humanitarian Response Intensive Course (Harvard)
    • H.E.L.P. Course by the ICRC
    • Asian Clinical Tropical Medicine Course (Thailand/Cambodia)
    • International ultrasound and emergency medicine courses through the Consortium of Universities of Global Health

Fellows may also pursue the Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health.
