We are pleased to announce that Shyanika W. Rose, PhD, is the new acting director of the Center for Health, Engagement and Transformation, effective August 1st for a term of three years. As CHET’s first faculty hire and with unanimous support from CHET faculty, staff, and members, Dr. Rose is well-positioned to maintain and build CHET’s research and training missions.
Dr. Rose has served as a primary faculty member in CHET since 2019, and is an associate professor, regular title in the department of behavioral science in the College of Medicine. She is also a member of the cancer prevention program of the Markey Cancer Center.
Dr. Rose’s research focuses on policy approaches to reducing disparities in tobacco and other substance use, and her interests include point of sale marketing, advertising, distribution in neighborhoods, and use patterns particularly in youth and young adults. Dr. Rose has published over 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Rose is currently MPI of AppalTRUST, a Tobacco Center of Regulatory Science, focused on rural communities in Appalachian Kentucky, and is currently the principal investigator on a National Cancer Institute grant examining the implications of local flavored tobacco sales restrictions for groups experiencing tobacco-related health disparities.
