Calling for Nominations: Frederick and Marcielle de Beer Award

In 2013, as part of the Diabetes and Obesity Research Day at UK, the inaugural Fred and Marcielle de Beer Award was awarded to the de Beer’s for their contributions to the development of the Barnstable Brown Diabetes and Obesity Research Center (BBDOC) and for their long-standing research accomplishments at the University of Kentucky.  The 2014 recipient was Dr. Lisa Cassis.  To continue this legacy, we will honor a UK faculty member for outstanding achievements in research, education, and/or clinical care involving obesity, diabetes, or related conditions at the annual Diabetes and Obesity Research Day May 20, 2015.

This email is to call for nominations of UK faculty for the 2015 award. Please send nominations by email to Mary Lowell (mary.lowell@uky.edu).  In the email, please include a short justification for the nomination addressing one or more of the following achievements:  (1) accomplishments in research involving obesity, diabetes or related conditions, (2) a recent prominent publication in the area, (3) relevant research funding (past and/or present), (4) training of researchers and/or clinicians in the area of obesity/diabetes and related conditions, (5) excellence in education/teaching related to diabetes, obesity or related conditions, or (6) excellence in clinical care in the field of diabetes, obesity or related conditions.  We welcome self-nominations, as well as those from trainees and/or staff.  Nominations are due by 2/27/2015.
