Congratulations to CHET primary faculty member and associate professor of behavioral science Laurie McLouth, PhD, on being appointed co-leader of the Markey Cancer Center Cancer Prevention and Control (CP) Research Program.
In this role, Dr. McLouth will share scientific and administrative leadership of the CP program alongside Co-leader Jessica Burris, PhD. Her responsibilities will include fostering collaborations within the CP program, between Markey's other research programs, and with representatives from external cancer research institutions. The guiding aims of the CP Research Program are to advance the understanding of risk factors and intervention targets for cancer prevention and control; develop and test the efficacy of interventions across the cancer control continuum; and study the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based interventions.
In addition to her leadership in the CP Research Program, Dr. McLouth will also join Markey’s Membership Committee and will serve on the Programs and Shared Resource Leaders Committee to help guide Markey’s broad research priorities. She and Dr. Burris will select pilot projects for funding, steer grant submissions, and provide regular reporting to the NCI, Internal Advisory Board, and External Advisory Board as part of maintaining Markey’s NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center designation.
Dr. McLouth joined the UK College of Medicine Department of Behavioral Science and the Center for Health, Engagement, and Transformation in 2019. Her program of research focuses on developing and testing interventions to improve the quality of life and quality of cancer care for patients and their caregivers facing advanced cancer, particularly in rural and socioeconomically strained areas.
