Ryan Barney

I grew up in Salt Lake City, UT and attended Brigham Young University for my undergrad, graduating with a degree in Cell Biology and Physiology, with a minor in Spanish. During this time, I worked in two different research labs, investigating novel therapeutics for osteoarthritis and the dynamics of the Drosophila gut microbiota. My research interests are in the area of immunology, and particularly the role of innate and adaptive immunity in chronic disease states. During the summer of 2023, I rotated in the lab of Dr. Ilhem Messaoudi, working on a project investigating placental immunity and factors surrounding risk of pre-term birth, and loved this opportunity to apply my interest in immunology to such an important translational question. When I'm not in the lab or going to class, you can find me gardening, baking with my wife, Gwen, or playing the banjo or the viola!
