Departmental Recognition and Congratulations – July 2019 American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) Awards: Two of our residents/fellows and their mentor, Dr. Alison Woodworth, have received great news from the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC). Both Erin Schuler, PhD and Emily Bachert, MD have submitted abstracts for this year’s AACC annual meeting and both received significant recognition for their work. Emily submitted an abstract on her work on the Daily lab’s choosing wisely project and her work received a Distinguished Abstract Award from the AACC Academy. The committee chose only 20 abstracts out of over 800. As a part of this award, Emily will be giving an oral presentation and recognized for her work at a luncheon. Emily’s abstract also received an honorable mention from the AACC Management Sciences Division. She will be giving a separate presentation for this group! Erin submitted an abstract highlighting data that she generated as a part of a study evaluating the point of care device used for employee wellness screening. She received a student abstract award from the AACC as well as the AACC Southeast section Christopher Frings travel award. To honor her accomplishment, she will be giving a talk at the AACC southeast section breakfast! Dr. Woodworth commented: “I am so very proud of the great work that our trainees are doing and UK will be very well represented at this year’s AACC Annual Meeting!” Cytopathology Publication: One of our newest faculty members, Derek Allison, MD, just co-authored a major cytopathology book. The book is part of the Pattern-Based Approach series of texts, which is highly respected and popular among anatomic pathologists.
