We have good news to share!

Derek Allison, MD, and Dava Piecoro, MD, are co-authors of an online CME/CE education activity for the CAP titled “Case 2:  Seminoma for the 2024 CAP FNA Educational CME/CE Program”.  This activity was released on April 15, 2024.  Excellent work to you both!

Derek Allison, MD, Nathan Shelman, MD, and Shulin Zhang, MD, PhD, are co-investigators of a newly funded research collaboration with the Markey – McDowell Cancer Network and sponsored by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services titled “FY245 UK/UL Joint Program Inherited Cancer Risk Program”.  John D’Orazio, MD, is the PI for this project.  Congratulations to all!

Andre Ene, MD has been awarded the 2024 AANP Neurodegenerative Disease Scholars Award!  Dr. Ene will accept the award at the annual AANP meeting in Olympic, CA on June 5, 2024.  Congratulations Dr. Ene!

Mohamed Hussein, MD, and his spouse have shared that they are expecting a baby in November!  Congratulations Dr. Hussein!

Dr. Nathan Shelman was recently nominated by the UK College of Medicine Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment to be the representative clinical faculty member from UK at the NBME Invitational Conference for Educators (NICE) in Philadelphia in June.  The conference is fully sponsored by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and is designed to explore current techniques and best practices in medical education assessment through interactive and engaging sessions. Topics covered in the past have been item (question) writing, standard setting and competency-based assessment. In the recent past, over 300 medical educators attended the NICE conference.  Each allopathic and osteopathic medical school in the United States can submit two nominees to attend (1 clinical and 1 basic science faculty).  Congratulations Dr. Shelman!

Last, but certainly not least, we would like to bid a very fond farewell to our graduating seniors, Juanita Ferreira, MD, Donna Hill, DO, and Leo Yenwongfai, MD.  All are headed to excellent fellowship opportunities (Cyto – University of Michigan for Juanita, Medical Micro – Yale University for Donna and Hematopathology – Johns Hopkins University for Leo).  We are very proud of each of you and will miss your immense talents here at UK.  Be sure to stay in touch and keep us posted on your future moves!
