Dr. Cassidy was born and raised in Portsmouth, Ohio. After completing a combined Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degree at Northeast Ohio Medical University, he began his Orhtopaedic Surgery Residency at the Universityof Kentucky in 2000. Once finished with the residency, he completed an additional year of study in spine surgery, under the direction of William Shaffer, M.D. Since 2006, he has served as a member of the faculty at the University, providing orthopaedic spine care. He is currently Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery as well as the Director of the Orhtopaedic Surgery Residency Program.
His clinical interests include complex cervical spine (neck) surgery, spine deformities such as scoliosis and kyphosis, and spine trauma. He serves on the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Evidence-Based Quality and Value Guidelines Committee, which seeks to develop guidelines for other orthpaedic surgeons to direct the practice of orthopaedic surgery in an effective, safe, and cost-effective manner. He is also on a similar committee for the North American Spine Society, tasked with developing Evidence Based Guidelines for spine care.
He lives in Lexington, with his wife, LaDonya, a Mt. Sterling native, and sons, Reed and Ryan. When not working, he enjoys cooking, golf, spending time with his family, and fixing things that break around his house.
