UK College of Medicine and Albert B. Chandler Hospital celebrated Resident Appreciation Day on February 25, 2021. It was a day that our residents across all specialties were recognized for their contributions to our hospital and our community. Two of our Emergency Medicine residents, Dr. Nick Fahey and Dr. Wes Barnett, were acknowledged by their colleagues on campus.

Dr. Nick Fahey was featured in a post shared by UK College of Medicine Facebook on February 25th. Dr. Fahey, a PGY2 and Lexington native, loves his job because it allows him to solve problems, talk to people, and consistently challenge himself. He says he has found a career path that keeps him interested and fulfilled. He was praised as being "friendly, calm, and respectful of others. He is the type of physician to take time and thank every staff member for their help in treating a patient."

Dr. Wes Barnett, a PGY1 from Cynthiana, KY, values the camaraderie at UK and enjoys being at an institution focused on learning at every level. When Wes was a student at UKCOM, he says he had many residents and faculty members take the time to teach him- now, he follows their lead. He was recognized by the Gold Humanism Honor Society at UKCOM. The GHHS encourages medical students at UK to show their gratitude for residents and mentors. "Dr. Barnett always advocates for medical students for clinical and procedural opportunities. He also gives a short teaching session to medical students on topics related to the patient encounter(s). He is one of the best residents I have ever worked with!"

We are proud of you, Nick and Wes! Congratulations on your well-deserved commendations.
