BSC Inclusive Excellence Awardee Highlights
Each year, the BSC DEI Council solicits nominations for the BSC Annual Excellence in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Faculty, Staff, and Student Awards. These awards recognize individuals for their contributions to fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion. The awards are intended to recognize individuals who demonstrate exemplary leadership and efforts to support and create a diverse and inclusive workplace, community, and/or academic environment. Awards are made to staff, faculty, and graduate or professional students.
We applaud the dedication and commitment of our past awardees highlighted below, and look forward to recognizing the equity, diversity, and inclusion contributions of additional BSC faculty, students, and staff.
Dr. Fernander has demonstrated extraordinary passion and commitment to equity and inclusiveness in every aspect of her professional career and endeavors. She leads in educating both learners and faculty on cultural humility and practicing equity within academia and medicine, and thus receives my recommendation without reservation.
It is without a doubt that Kaylin is highly committed and dedicated to addressing health inequities experienced among diverse communities, advocating for those who have been traditionally under-represented and marginalized, promoting the conversation of cultural humility, and building a career as a clinician-scholar to advance health equity.
With Tee’s involvement, one of the first actions taken by Unit leadership was to revise the job... Without Tee’s input, we believe we would not be able to examine the best possible picture of a potential candidate, particularly with regard to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In short, Thailandria is the kind of student who makes everyone else better...I fully expect her to be a wonderful physician leader. I believe she has the passion and capability to make a difference in the community where she practices, and in society as a whole. She is truly outstanding.
I believe Sarah has provided a spectacular service for the Department through her work on the newly revised BSC 755/815/825 Race, Racism, and Health Inequities among Blacks in the U.S. course...It is with a profound sense of gratitude that I nominate Sarah Treberg for the 2022 BSC Excellence in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Staff Award. She is most deserving.
