Each month, the department of psychiatry recognizes a resident or fellow who has demonstrated excellence in patient care, academics or community involvement. This recognition highlights the individual’s dedication to advancing psychiatry through compassionate care, research and community outreach, setting a high standard for their peers.
Trainee of the Month - September 2026
Safia Centner, M.D.
"I would like to recognize Dr. Safia Centner for the exceptional leadership and compassion she demonstrated during her first month as PGY-2 Psychiatry Supervisor on the Adult Behavioral Health Unit. While supporting a new group of psychiatry interns, she also made my fourth-year pharmacy APPE student feel like a valued member of the interdisciplinary team from day one. She intentionally included the student in discussions, encouraged participation, and created opportunities to contribute meaningfully to patient care. Her kindness and inclusivity fostered confidence, belonging, and an outstanding learning experience. As a preceptor, I am incredibly grateful for the positive impact she had on my student. Those seemingly small acts of inclusion have a tremendous impact on a learner's confidence, growth, and overall rotation experience. Dr. Centner exemplifies our institution's values through her commitment to teamwork, respect, inclusion, and excellence in education and patient care.
