University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital is a 500-bed hospital and is a site for the Consultation-Liaison and Emergency Psychiatry (CL-ER) rotation for PGY-2 residents.
University of Kentucky Good Samaritan Hospital
Rotations: Inpatient Psychiatry, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Emergency Psychiatry
This is a 150-bed community hospital within which our 19-bed adult unit is located. PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents rotate through the adult unit. This is also a site for a second Consultation-Liaison and Emergency Psychiatry rotation for PGY-2 residents.
UK Outpatient Clinic
Rotations: Outpatient Clinics, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinics, Suboxone Clinics, Psychotherapy, TelePsychiatry
The University of Kentucky Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic is located approximately four miles from the main campus in a spacious, attractive facility with large meeting rooms, group rooms, a play therapy room, and library. Approximately 100 patients per day are seen at this facility in a variety of special clinics including child team clinics, substance use disorder clinics, adult team clinic, and psychopharmacology clinic. State-of-the-art telemedicine equipment links the clinic with main campus and a variety of distant sites for clinical, administrative and educational purposes. Also located in the building is the department of psychiatry research program offices.
Eastern State Hospital
Rotations: Inpatient Psychiatry
Eastern State Hospital opened in 2013 and provides recovery-focused, individualized care in a supportive environment that features the latest in mental health treatment. The original Eastern State Hospital opened in 1824 and cared for individuals for 189 years, making it the second-oldest psychiatric hospital in the country until the opening of the new Eastern State Hospital. Building on that legacy, the new 300,000-square-foot, 239-bed facility provides an extensive range of inpatient mental health services to adults living within the 50 counties surrounding and including Fayette County.
Kentucky Children's Hospital - Pediatric Behavioral Health Unit
Rotations: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Consult-Liaison Psychiatry
The Pediatric Behavioral Health Unit at Kentucky Children's Hospital is a 17-bed inpatient program that offers a personal, structured environment for adolescents with mental illness or behavioral health problems.
University Health Service
Rotations: Outpatient clinics, Psychotherapy
PGY-3 and PGY-4 residents rotate in the University Student Mental Health Clinic, an outpatient service providing services to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Kentucky.
Veterans Affairs Medical Center
Rotations: Outpatient Clinics and Suboxone Clinic
The Veterans Affairs Hospital is a 333-bed acute care facility adjacent to the University of Kentucky Hospital that contains a 19-bed acute care psychiatry unit. Residents will rotate on the inpatient unit. The VA also includes an outpatient facility five miles away that provides outpatient services for substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, and a wide variety of general psychiatric illnesses.
Center on Trauma and Children
The University of Kentucky Center on Trauma and Children (CTAC), located at 3470 Blazer Parkway, is committed to improving the health and well-being of children and families through research, practice, policy, and the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based approaches to child abuse and trauma. The Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment Service (CATS) program is a state-funded assessment and intervention program for neglected and abused children, run by the Department of Psychiatry. The Child and Adolescent Trauma Treatment and Training Institute (CATTI) is a university-community collaboration project that aims to help children and families recover from psychological trauma through statewide service delivery. PGY 4 and 5 fellows rotate through the Center on Trauma & Children.
New Vista Community Mental Health Centers
PGY-3, PGY-4 and PGY-5 residents in all three of our programs rotate through this comprehensive care system that serves Fayette and neighboring counties. New Vista provides outpatient psychiatric services to patients of all ages with a diverse list of needs. More information can be obtained through their website.
Sunrise Children's Services, Woodlawn Campus (Woodlawn)
Woodlawn serves boys, ages 6-18, with severe emotional and behavioral problems that need more long-term, comprehensive care, but do not require hospitalization. The Woodlawn Campus is located in Danville, Ky., approximately 38 miles southeast of Lexington. PGY-4 and PGY-5 residents in the child and adolescent psychiatry and triple-board programs have opportunities to rotate at Woodlawn.
Harris Psychological Services Center
The Jesse G. Harris, Jr., Psychological Services Center (Harris Center) is a university-based clinic designed to provide affordable psychological therapy and assessment services to the community. Psychiatry residents at the PGY-4 residents rotate at the Harris Center.
