College of Medicine professor appointed to Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education's Faculty Advisory Network
Luke H. Bradley, PhD, Chellgren Endowed Professor in the department of neuroscience, was recently selected by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education as a member of its newly-established Faculty Advisory Network.
Dr. Bradley will join 19 other appointed members from Kentucky colleges and universities on a diverse team dedicated to promoting student success across the state. As a team member, he will advise the group and provide insight on state-level policies and initiatives based on his perspective as an experienced faculty member of a higher education institution. Specific focuses for the network this year include closing achievement gaps, responding to business needs, and improving academic quality.
In the near 14 years Dr. Bradley has been with the College of Medicine, along with 20 years of teaching STEM courses, he has gathered a wealth of experience to prepare him for his new role in the Faculty Advisory Network. He currently serves as associate professor with a primary appointment in our department of neuroscience and a secondary appointment in the department of molecular and cellular biochemistry. He was named the University of Kentucky Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year in 2018, as well as a University of Kentucky Chellgren Endowed Professor for his excellence in teaching and research.
One of Dr. Bradley’s most noteworthy accomplishments has been his active role in establishing a sustainable pipeline for traditionally underrepresented and first-generation populations in STEM. He created and now oversees the University of Kentucky’s NIH-funded START program (STEM Through Authentic Research and Training), which provides year-round research opportunities and professional development activities for high school students and teachers, helping to build confidence in the classroom and a strong sense of belonging while emphasizing the big picture of careers in these important fields. Dr. Bradley holds professional experience with his role on the Science Advisory Board of Space Tango, LLC, and as chief executive officer and co-founder of Avast Therapeutics, Inc. He serves on UK’s Academic Preparation and Placement (APP) Advisory Board, the Neuroscience Major Executive Committee, and is a faculty member within UK’s Lewis Honors College, the College of Medicine’s Brain Restoration Center, and the Center for Structural Biology.
