LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 8, 2022) — Every year, the University of Kentucky’s Center for Health Equity Transformation (CHET) recognizes the efforts and voices of UK students, trainees and faculty members who are addressing health inequities.
The Center for Health Equity Transformation (CHET) and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) at the University of Kentucky are now accepting letters of intent for health equity-focused pilot grants through April 1, 2022. This collaborative pilot will fund two 12-month awards for up to $25,000 each in total direct costs. The purpose of this funding mechanism is to support meritorious translational projects which focus on identifying, reducing and/or eliminating health disparities and promoting health equity.

Congratulations to Madeline Dunfee, a CHET graduate research assistant, who was awarded a 2021 James S. Brown Graduate Student Award for Research. Maddie is is an MD/PhD student, and is in the fifth year of her program to earn both an MD from the College of Medicine and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the College of Public Health.
The University of Kentucky Human Development Institute is leading a five year Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration Maternal and Child Health Bureau in partnership with the University of Louisville and Eastern Kentucky University. LEND programs share the overall mission of improving the health of infants, children and adolescents with, or at risk for, neurodevelopmental and related disabilities including autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 21, 2021) – A new University of Kentucky College of Medicine study will examine how policies that restrict the sale of flavored tobacco products including menthol cigarettes impact health disparities among vulnerable populations.
A five-year, $2.8 million grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) will support the study on how local policies impact at-risk groups – including communities of color, low-income populations and youth – that are more likely to use flavored tobacco products.
