Patrick Kitzman

Patrick Kitzman, PhD, PT,  conducts research focused on supports and barriers to accessing healthcare and essential resources to support community participation. Since 2008, Dr. Kitzman has directed a community-based participatory network focused on health, healthcare, and community participation of individuals with disabilities related to stroke, brain injury, and spinal cord injury. Since its inception, the group has developed and tested multiple resources to support individuals with disabilities in rural Kentucky.

Dr. Kitzman sees his role in CHET as an advocate for the population with disabilities as well as other marginalized populations such as children in the foster care system. Dr. Kitzman encourages us to develop a “Voices from the Community” seminar series.  Instead of researchers presenting data about the community, let us invite the community to talk to us about their perspectives related to racism, sexism, stigma related to disability, poverty, marginalization, etc.
