Biography and Education

Education

TK Logan, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Behavioral Science, College of Medicine, and the Center on Drug and Alcohol Research. Dr. Logan teaches in the Lewis Honors College and has joint appointments in Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, and Gender & Women’s Studies.

Research

Dr. Logan’s research focuses on stalking/cyberstalking, partner abuse, coercive control, sexual assault, firearm-related risks, and safety planning and efficacy as well as on substance use disorder program (SUD) outcomes and SUD recovery. Dr. Logan is the principal investigator on 5 state funded SUD program evaluations. Dr. Logan’s uses surveys, focus groups, secondary data extraction, and mixed method qualitative interviews in her research. Dr. Logan is an author on over 200 research articles and book chapters as well as five books. She also serves on the editorial board of four international journals. Dr. Logan is involved with a several community boards and national organizations working to prevent gender-based violence.

Unique Translational Research Contributions

  • Stalking and Harassment Assessment and Risk Profile (SHARP) V-2. 

    • The SHARP is a research informed tool for increasing awareness of stalking, harassment, and threatening behavior by: (1) Assessing the “big picture” of stalking including course of conduct, threats and fear, resistance and persistence and context of the situation; (2) providing users with a narrative summary of responses to the assessment questions in a word document that can be used for a variety of purposes; (3) describing the risk profile based on the assessed factors in order to better understand the level of concern and dangerousness of the situation; and, (4) suggesting research-grounded safety strategies for consideration. This tool is used nationally with and has been translated to Chinese and is being used in Taiwan. SHARP is featured on the DV Risc website funded by OVW and both SHARP and Dr. Logan’s stalking assessment framework is used by the Stalking Prevention, Awareness, and Resource Center (SPARC). www.StalkingRisk.com or www.CoerciveControl.org. 

     

  • Mini-documentaries and fact sheets to highlight gender-based violence and stalking 

    • Original co-founder of www.OutrageUs.com, a website devoted to highlighting attention to gender-based violence and stalking in particular. Several mini-documentaries were created by working with a documentary film maker. Additionally, fact sheets on stalking, protective order effectiveness, and gender-based violence are featured at www.CoerciveControl.org. 

     

  • Strengthening Lifelines: Increasing client engagement and retention in substance use disorder programs
    • Dr. Logan, along with her colleagues conducted several key studies examining barriers to SUD program engagement including several secret shopper projects, several program staff surveys, interviews with SUD clients who dropped out or wanted but did not go to SUD treatment, and literature reviews. This work culminated in a one-hour film (Strengthening Lifelines: Increasing client engagement and retention in substance use disorder programs), discussion guide, and website. https://cdar.uky.edu/bhos/lifelines.html.
