The program for the physical medicine and rehabilitation PGY-2 year consists of four-week rotation periods as follows:

CVA Rehabilitation

Inpatient and outpatient stroke rehabilitation at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, with direct supervision by a physical medicine and rehabilitation attending faculty member. The resident assumes primary responsibility for inpatients and assists in teaching rotating medical and PA students. Daily rounds are Monday through Friday with the attending, which includes progress notes, admissions, management of patient care conference as well as variable outpatient clinic duties.

 

Brain Injury Rehabilitation

Inpatient and outpatient TBI rehabilitation at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, with direct supervision by a physical medicine and rehabilitation attending faculty member. The resident assumes primary responsibility for inpatients and assists in teaching rotating medical and PA students. Daily rounds are Monday through Friday with the attending, which includes progress notes, admissions, management of patient care conference as well as variable outpatient clinic duties.

 

Cardinal Hill Clinic 2

Outpatient and/or physical medicine and rehabilitation consults at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, with direct supervision by physical medicine and rehabilitation attending faculty. Resident with see patients in outpatient setting and participate in physical medicine and rehabilitation specific procedures including intrathecal baclofen pump management and neurolytic injections.

 

VA Musculoskeletal/Polytrauma

Rotation consists of a combination of inpatient and outpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation experiences. These include providing rehabilitation recommendations, assessing patients for TBI in polytrauma clinic, amputee and musculoskeletal clinics. This rotation provides hands-on experience in a variety of joint injections. Direct supervision provided by VAMC physical medicine and rehabilitation attendings.

 

Sports Medicine Selective

Two-week outpatient rotation with UK sports medicine.

 

Interventional Pain Selective

Outpatient interventional pain clinic. This rotation includes management of chronic and acute pain patients with supervision by anesthesia residents and faculty. Interventional procedures include fluoroscopy-guided epidural and facet joint corticosteroid injections, medical branch rhizotomies, and baclofen pump trials.
