The program for the physical medicine and rehabilitation intern (PGY-1) year consists of four-week rotation periods with the exception of the sports medicine/pain medicine selective rotations that are each two weeks per rotation.

Internal Medicine

General inpatient medicine wards at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center and/or Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with supervision of upper level internal medicine residents and rotating attending.

 

Neurology

Neurology has two rotations: neuro and neuro ICU. Neuro wards (stroke service and general neurology service) at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center and/or Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with supervision by upper level neurology residents and rotating faculty. Neuro ICU offers insight into care for higher level of severity patients. 

 

Orthopedic Surgery (Inpatient)

Inpatient ward service at the University of Kentucky Hospital and/or Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with supervision by upper level orthopedic residents and rotating faculty. This rotation consists of post-operative patient care and emergency room evaluations.

 

Orthopedic Surgery (Outpatient)

 

Outpatient Pediatrics

General outpatient pediatric rotation at UK Kentucky Clinic South, with supervision by upper level pediatric residents and rotating faculty

 

Sports Medicine/Pain Medicine Selective

Two-week outpatient rotation with UK Sports Medicine / Pain Medicine.

 

Trauma Surgery

Inpatient care on a trauma surgery service at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. This rotation includes management post-operative wound care with close supervision by physician assistants and faculty.

 

UK Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic

Outpatient Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, with direct supervision by physical medicine and rehabilitation attending faculty. Resident with see patient in inpatient and outpatient setting and participate in physical medicine and rehabilitation specific procedures including intrathecal baclofen pump management and neurolytic injections.
