Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Education Residency Program Clinical Curriculum PGY-3 PGY-3 The program for the physical medicine and rehabilitation PGY-3 year consists of four-week periods as follows: Department Number of Rotations Spinal Cord Injury Rehab 2-3 rotations General Rehab 2-3 rotations VA Amputee/Consults 2 rotations Pediatric Rehab 2-3 rotations Elective 1 rotation Teaching Utility Team 1 rotation Cardinal Hill Clinic 3 2 rotations Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Inpatient and outpatient SCI rehabilitation at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital to include patients with traumatic and non-traumatic SCI, burns, and Parkinson's Disease including management of Deep Brain stimulators. This rotation is under direct supervision by a physical medicine and rehabilitation SCI attending faculty member. Residents assume primary responsibility for inpatients and assist in teaching rotating medical and physician assistant students. Daily rounds are Monday through Friday with the attending and the resident is responsible for progress notes, admissions, patient care conference as well as variable clinics throughout the week. General Rehabilitation Inpatient care at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital. Patient exposure includes amputee, multi-trauma, post-transplant management, and cancer rehab. Direct supervision by physical medicine and rehabilitation attending faculty. VA Amputee/Consults Outpatient rehabilitation at Veterans Affair Medical Center and VA inpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation consults with direct supervision by physical medicine and rehabilitation attending faculty. Resident assumes daily outpatient clinic duties for patients including amputee, orthopedics, musculoskeletal disorders and rheumatology as well as early exposure to EMG. Pediatric Rehabilitation Outpatient pediatric rehabilitation and orthopedics at Shriners Hospital for Children with direct supervision by physical medicine and rehabilitation and orthopedic attending faculty. Outpatient services include management of cerebral palsy, myelodysplasia, scoliosis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, congenital and traumatic amputations, and a variety of childhood musculoskeletal disorders. Teaching Utility Team Cardinal Hill Clinic 3 Elective Elective month in a physical medicine and rehabilitation field of the resident's choice.
