The purpose of the Community Engagement Core (CEC) Stakeholder Advisory Board (SAB) is to facilitate and strengthen the interactions between University of Kentucky scientists and the community and provide invaluable input into overall center decision making. The 13-member board represents clinicians, advocates, educators, strategic communications experts, community organizers, and attorneys from southeastern Kentucky. Many members are lifelong native Kentuckians who live and work in the region on a wide range of environmental health and health care issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice to the CEC team as they develop, implement and evaluate strategies to increase community and stakeholder participation in focus groups and informal conversations to identify community needs and opportunities for partnering on environmental health science.

  • Help interpret findings, plan, and evaluate appropriate outreach and engagement strategies to inform and involve the community in how best to approach environmental health issues in Appalachia.
