Many members of the College of Medicine have expressed concern over the recently proposed cuts to the NIH budget. As part of this concern, many have felt the need to contact their elected representation in government. For contact to be considered appropriate, it must be presented as from an individual citizen not as from a representative of the University, meaning it must be sent from a personal email address and personal mailing address. Dr. Karen Kelsky will be on the University of Kentucky’s campus Friday, April 7th. In addition to a keynote, Hacking the Academic Job Market, and workshop, Going Post-Ac: The Non-Academic Job Search (more info about these sessions can be found here), she will present a workshop tailored specifically to Directors of Graduate Studies and graduate faculty, Advising for Advisors: How to Help Your Ph.D.s in a Time of Turmoil, from 1:00 to 2:30pm.

Registration for the Seventh Annual Barnstable Brown Obesity and Diabetes Research Day is now open. The deadline for abstract submission is April 21, 2017. To prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt, jurors must find evidence a defendant was culpable of a criminal act. Culpability refers to a person’s awareness and mental state, and in cases of criminal conviction, the degree of culpability or “guiltiness” dictates the degree of punishment. Depending on culpability, a punishment ranges from a small fine to life in prison.

HHS continues to operate under a continuing resolution. The NIH will continue to issue non-competing research grant awards at levels below what was stated on the most recent Notice of Award. The salary cap was raised from $185,100 to $187,000.

The College of Medicine (COM) has recently begun participating in the pilot of the new “version 2.0” eIAF form. This new and improved eIAF form has been in development by the Office of Sponsored Projects Administration (OSPA) and the Enterprise Architecture Group (EAG). It offers a number of enhanced features, including improved eIAF validation checks and a window for the upload of attachments directly into the eIAF form.

On March 2, 2017, NIH released a new policy combining and clarifying its previous policies on continuous submission. While the policy did not change, the information is now formatted in an easier to use single policy.
