Event Details


The ClinSci Connect initiative will kick off with a presentation from Clark Files, MD, entitled "Mechanisms of Muscle Wasting and the Response to Movement in Critically Ill Patients," as part of the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series. Dr. Files is a professor of medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He is a pulmonary and critical care physician-scientist interested in translational research on severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and sepsis.  

Dr. Files' presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring UK investigators who have built successful clinician-scientist collaborations. 

ClinSci Connect Program Overview


We are excited to launch ClinSci Connect, a pilot program within the College of Medicine designed to foster meaningful collaboration and promote translational research between clinicians and scientists. The program will facilitate connections and offer guidance to help teams build strong, productive partnerships. 


 Submit Interest Form 
  • Form includes contact information, role, area(s) of expertise, research interests/questions, preferred collaboration focus, CV or biosketch, and availability for meetings.  Due Friday, July 25, 2025. 
     
Collaboration Pairing
  • The COM Office of Research will review applications and identify complementary matches based on research interest and clinical relevance. Prospective teams are contacted to confirm interest by Friday, August 8, 2025.  
     
Kickoff Meeting
  • The COM Office of Research organizes and facilitates the initial meeting. The agenda includes introductions and goals, identification of shared research questions, and timeline planning.
     
Scheduled Collaboration Meetings
  • Regular check-in meetings (monthly or bi-monthly) facilitated by the COM Office of Research.
  • The COM Office of Research will offer feedback and support with:
    • Pilot study planning
    • IRB navigation
    • Grant or funding planning
    • Facilitating team communication
