About Dr. Sfeir:

Charles S Sfeir, DDS, PhD, is the Associate Dean for Research and the Director of the Center for Craniofacial Regeneration. Dr. Sfeir is an associate professor in the Departments of Periodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Oral Biology, Bioengineering and the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine. He received a DDS degree from the Université Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France. He earned a degree in Periodontology, and holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Sfeir’s research focus is in four areas:

1. The development of bio-inspired materials for mineralized tissue engineering, as well as understanding extracellular matrix proteins involved in mineralized tissue biology;
2. The development of fixation devices using resorbable metals;
3. The development of novel periodontal therapies using modulation of immune system strategies;
4. The development of tissue engineering strategies for pulp tissue regeneration and translational research that involves pre-clinical animal models.
