(AACR) The Associate Member Council serves as the leadership body of the associate members of the American Association of Cancer Research. AACR is the world's largest cancer organization, with over 13,000 associate members.

It's an irrefutable fact that smoking is bad for you. Study after study has proven that smoking increases your risk for cancer, heart disease, diabetes – even blindness.

But dementia? Not so fast. A recent study has demonstrated that smoking is not associated with a higher risk of dementia.

Athletics teaches discipline, commitment and perseverance. All of those skills are valuable on the court, in the classroom and in life. For first year medical student Rachel Potter, a lot of the discipline and time management she applies to her studies she learned while a member of the University of Kentucky Women’s Basketball team.

After four years of medical school and numerous interviews, University of Kentucky College of Medicine students found out where they will continue their medical education in residency programs. Match Day is a culmination of the hard work and dreams of students on the path to becoming doctors.

Amy Cowley, CHSR Research Program Manager, recently worked with representatives from the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services to write and record an online course titled Medicaid 101. The one-hour course explores several topics such as “the History of Medicaid”, “Main Players”, “Kentucky HEALTH” and “Using your Coverage” and includes a 10-question quiz at the end. Medicaid 101 will serve as a health literacy course, and will be available when the community engagement portion of Kentucky HEALTH, Kentucky’s new Medicaid program, is launched during the Summer of 2019.

On March 13, 2019, Amanda Trent (Project Coordinator) and Richard Herndon (Project Manager) presented a webinar titled "Monitoring and Improvement of Screening, Referral, and Navigation Project" via hosts: The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Mathematica Policy Research (MPR).  Based on the recommendation of our CMS project officer, the research arm of the agency, MPR, requested that our bridge organization develop and present material through PowerPoint on how we have been monitoring and reporting beneficiary enrollment as part of the KC-AHC project.

  While national rankings cannot portray the importance of research as a pillar of the mission of the University of Kentucky (UK), rankings provide a snapshot of our standings compared to benchmark institutions of higher education. Fortunately, national rankings of university research portfolios show steady growth of UK’s research enterprise, and they illustrate the breadth of faculty, staff and students engaged in research.
