Hazard, Ky. (Oct. 1, 2018) – The Hazard Stroke Survivor and Caregiver Support Group was recognized with a Community Service Award from the UK HealthCare/Norton HealthCare - Stroke Care Network, during the 2018 Stroke Care Network Summit held at the Hyatt Regency in Lexington, Aug. 16 and 17.

The University of Kentucky College of Medicine invites applications for the position of chair of the Department of Surgery. The College of Medicine seeks a visionary chair with demonstrated leadership abilities, a strong record in academic medicine, with administrative experience as a division chief or program/center director who could provide strong leadership skills as a listener, decision-maker, humanist and effective advocate for the Department of Surgery and its faculty.

The University of Kentucky Alumni Association — with a committee chaired by UK Associate Provost for Faculty Advancement G.T. Lineberry — regularly honors outstanding UK faculty members with the UK Alumni Professorship Award.

Last week, more than 200 faculty, staff, and trainees from across the nation attended the Gill Heart & Vascular Institute's Cardiovascular Research Day to share the latest research on cardiovascular health. 

The event, in its 21st year, showcased the research of postdoctoral fellows, students, and faculty, much of it focused on the prevention or reversal of cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes. 

On 9/20/2018, we had our inaugural Dr. Nancy C. Flowers and Dr. Leo G. Horan Lectureship in Cardiology. Our invited speaker was Dr. Kim Eagle from the University of Michigan. He gave a fantastic talk on "40 Years of perioperative Cardiac Assessment: A Piece of My Mind". Our fellows had to opportunity to meet Dr. Eagle during a luncheon, and talk with him about cardiology career and outlook as a specialty. At the end of the day, there was a dinner at the beautiful Apiary in downtown Lexington.

Physiology Graduate Student Brooke Ahern (Jon Satin Lab) was recognized for outstanding work in two events at the 21st Cardiovascular Research Day held Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Lexington Convention Center.

As the university for Kentucky, understanding and addressing the health needs of the people of the Commonwealth is the goal of many faculty, staff, clinicians and researchers. As a step toward improving health equity in the Commonwealth, the University of Kentucky Center for Health Equity Transformation (CHET) was established during the 2018 Board of Trustees meeting. 

Registration is open for the 2018 Kentucky Neuroscience Clinical-Translational Research Symposium, which will take place Oct. 5, 2018 at the Karpf Auditorium in Pavilion A of the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital.

The symposium provides basic, translational and clinical neuroscience investigators an opportunity to discuss their work, share progress and develop collaborations.  The symposium will include a scientific poster session and four theme-based platform sessions, each with short (10-minute) talks selected from abstract submissions. 

The 21st Annual Gill Heart Association Cardiovascular Research Day was a huge success, thanks to  the expectional presentations from our trainees,
staff, and featured speakers! This year featured over 60 poster presentations, a huge thank you to all who participated.

Outstanding Graduate Student Poster Presentation “The Deneys van der Westhuyzen Award”: Hsuan Peng

The University of Kentucky College of Medicine-Northern Kentucky Campus, a collaboration with Northern Kentucky University and St. Elizabeth Healthcare, received the annual Unity Award at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner.

The Unity Award is presented to an individual or individuals who have shown leadership in bringing Northern Kentuckians together to address and solve common challenges and issues, and has shown leadership in seeking regional solution to Northern Kentucky challenges.
