The Dean's Core is comprised of individuals who contribute to the Dean's CORE Scholarship Fund. Members of the Dean's CORE Society provide vital funding to help alleviate the debt our medical students face. This funding meets a critical need faced by both our students and the institution that serves them, as the College of Medicine is evaluated based on its effort to minimize student debt.

Our Mission

The Dean's CORE is committed to reducing the student loan debt of UK CoM graduates;
it will thereby help address Kentucky's physician shortage,
improve the mental health of new physicians,
and secure the future of quality medical education in the Commonwealth.

Our Values

Compassion

The College of Medicine produces physicians who serve the Commonwealth with the best that is in them. They work tirelessly to bridge the gap in care for underserved communities; they show compassion. In turn, the Dean’s CORE exercises compassion by reducing the debt new physicians face.

Operational Readiness

We are the College of Medicine at the University for Kentucky. By reducing the student debt faced by College of Medicine Graduates, we bring the dream of being a physician into reach for more Kentuckians who choose to stay and serve in the Commonwealth. This helps address the physician shortage faced by our state, and directly improves the lives of people in need of care.

Resilience

Physicians help others every day, but many report facing their own challenges around mental health. Rates of stress, anxiety, and burnout among doctors are increasing, and this has a direct impact on the quality of care being provided to patients. Debt can create or compound existing financial stress, and the Dean’s Core is committed to doing something about it. Our mission is to ensure students can focus on their training and their patients instead of how to make ends meet.

Excellence

The UK College of Medicine has an impressive track record of innovation and exploration; we are pioneers. The Dean’s CORE believes that Physicians provide higher-quality care because they were trained at the University of Kentucky. Providing a robust scholarship fund to deserving students helps the College of Medicine attract the best and brightest future physicians.
