Sabina Warns was thrilled when her faculty mentors Campbell Grant, MD, assistant professor of urology, and Kristen Fletcher, MD, associate professor of internal medicine, asked her to join their work on a research project during her first year at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in research?

Stephen E. Strup, MD, FACS, the James F. Glenn Professor and chair of the department of urology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine was recently inducted president of the Society of Pelvic Surgeons (SPS). The 71st meeting of the SPS was recently held in Milano, Italy.

The UK College of Medicine Urology Department this past week hosted the Edward Hunt Ray, Sr. Visiting Professorship in Urology, featuring several UK urology students presenting cases from their own experiences at UK as well as several talks from Chandru Sundaram, MD. Dr. Sundaram is a Welch professor of urology and vice chair program director at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Following an extensive national search and interviews with highly qualified individuals, the College of Medicine is excited to welcome Na’Tasha Evans, PhD, MEd, as the new vice dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and associate professor in the department of behavioral science.

This year at the annual Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association Meeting, UK College of Medicine Department of Urology and General Surgery was pleased to present a variety of podiums and posters. Several of these presentations won best abstract in their sections, and we wanted to take a moment to say congratulations to these presenters.

The UK College of Medicine is excited to welcome Gurpreet Dhaliwal, MD, as the visiting professor delivering this year’s Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Humanities Lecture.
The event will take place Noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, in Nursing 201. It will be open to everyone in the UK College of Medicine. Dr. Dhaliwal’s lecture will be titled “No One Cares How Much You Know.”

The University of Kentucky’s ninth annual Healthy Hearts for Women Symposium will bring in nationally recognized experts to raise awareness about the dangers of heart disease and educate attendees on prevention techniques.

The University of Kentucky College of Medicine’s Salvation Army Clinic is a student-run, free clinic that serves as a learning environment for medical, pharmacy, and social work students while providing acute onsite health care for uninsured patients at the Salvation Army of Central Kentucky.
