Dear Chairs and Center Directors,

 In response to feedback about the draft IDP, we have created a slightly modified version, which is attached. The major change in this version is the specific inclusion of questions in Parts II and III related to understanding responsible conduct of research, in order to ensure that our training plans are meeting with NIH standards in this area.  In addition, we slightly modified the introductory paragraph so that it can be directly cut and pasted into a progress report.  This section now reads:

As a result of recent lapses in biosafety practices at Federal laboratories, the Federal Government has issued a “Safety Stand-Down for federal facilities to ensure safety of laboratory researchers and the American public. The University of Kentucky as a recipient of Federal research funding is encouraged to conduct similar reviews.

Recently, the University of Kentucky family lost an exceptional physician, pioneer and transformational leader for our institution and medical enterprise. Peter Bosomworth, M.D., was 84 when he died Saturday morning, leaving an indelible mark on the University and our mission of quality education, research, health care and service to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Dr. Bosomworth was part of the tradition of leadership and quality care that has defined the UK medical center for more than 40 years.
University of Kentucky faculty, students, and postdoctoral fellows recently represented the institution at the second annual SEC Symposium, a program of the Southeastern Conference's academic initiative known as SECU, in Atlanta from Sept. 21 - 23.

Center for Health Services Research Approved for $14.9 Million Research Award by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to Study Transitions from Hospital to Home

A research team at the University of Kentucky Center for Health Services Research has been approved for a $14.9 million research funding award by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to study the challenges of patients making smooth transitions from the hospital to home. 

After Cony Puac delivered her daughter Evany, birthing attendants placed the newborn in her arms and cleared the room.  

The UK HealthCare Gill Heart Institute's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program has received recertification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This certification recognizes the UK program for its commitment to improving cardiovascular outcomes and quality of life by enhancing standards of care. Cardiac rehabilitation programs are designed to help people with cardiovascular events recover more quickly, improve their quality of life and decrease future event rates.
