Congratulations to Dr. Florin Despa and colleagues for receiving TWO new grants to study the pathology of amylin dysregulation in neurodegenerative and/or vascular disease. His new NIH R01 is entitled “Role of Systemic Amylin Dyshomeostasis in Alzheimer’s Disease” and his AHA award is entitled “Amylin Vasculopathy, A Therapeutic Target to Reduce Stroke”.
'UK at the Half' Features Dean of UK College of Medicine
Robert DiPaola, dean of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, was featured during "UK at the Half" that aired during the UK at Florida football game, broadcast on radio Sept. 10.
DiPaola, who came to UK March 1, talks about his impressions of the college and the university, including the collaborative nature, strong leadership and strength of faculty.

Annual symposium to provide CME updates on CT Surgery services at UK
The UK division of Cardiothoracic Surgery will host its annual CME symposium for primary care providers on Saturday morning, Oct. 8, beginning at 7 am in the UK Hospital Pavilion A Auditorium.
The symposium will provide updates on the full spectrum of clinical services in which CT Surgery plays a primary role. The range of topics for discussion will include a major update on lung cancer treatment strategies, heart and lung transplants, foregut surgery, trans-aortic valve replacement (TAVR), and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
