Proposed Cuts to Federal Research Funding Threaten UK’s Health and High-Tech Economy
In December, with bipartisan support, Congress passed the 21st Century Cures Act, a major piece of legislation designed to re-energize medical research within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) – the world’s premier biomedical research government agency. But the recently released so called “skinny” budget within the America First budget blueprint, which includes a roughly $6 billion cut to the NIH, would profoundly curtail discovery and innovation across the U.S.
CHSR Receives $4.5 Million CMS Contract for Accountable Health Communities Model
On April 6th we received notification that the UK Center for Health Services Research was selected for a $4.5 million award in the Alignment Track of Accountable Health Communities (AHC). This initiative out of the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), aims to identify and address the health-related social needs of Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries in specific communities in Kentucky aiming to impact health care costs and improve beneficiaries’ health and quality of care. Stromp Receives Prestigious Summa Cum Laude Award at International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine Conference
Tori Stromp, PhD, a recent graduate of the Department of Physiology and a member of the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center, recently received the prestigious Summa Cum Laude Award at the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine Conference. The award is presented to less than 1% of the abstracts submitted to the conference and is rarely awarded to graduate students. Tori will present her work at the annual conference April 22-27, 2017 in Honolulu, HI.
