Dr. Sandra Beck, director of the general surgery residency program at the University of Kentucky, announced that Caroline Neff, MD is the 2019 recipient of the Charles H. Nicholson Clinical Tour Fellowship.The announcement was made prior to Dr. Samuel Carmichael’s presentation of the Nicholson Scholar lecture on Wednesday morning, May 16.

On May 5, the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, in partnership with the Center of Excellence in Rural Health (CERH) and the Huffman & Huffman Clinic, held its first UK Global Ophthalmology (UK GO) outreach service in Hazard. 

On Tuesday, May 29 2018 Erica Littlejohn successfully defended her dissertation and was awarded her doctoral degree. Congratulations Erica!

The University of Kentucky Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center held its eighth annual Obesity and Diabetes Research Day, highlighting the work of students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty from around the region. The program features presentations from nationally recognized physician-scientists, as well as researchers chosen from abstract submissions. 

The UK Cardiology fellows and staff participated in the Bruce Protocol Challenge. Each participant ran on the Bruce protocol exercise stress test. The difficulty increases every 3 minutes up to 7 stages. Any one who can complete more than 10 minutes is already doing pretty well. All our participants were able to break the 10 minute barrier. Our winner this year was Greg Sinner, who completed 23:21, which is beyond stage 7!
The UK Cardiology fellows presented multiple posters at ACC 2018 in Orlando, FL. Bruce Bradley, Nathan Kusterer and Jean Touchan represented Kentucky in FIT Jeopardy - Battle of the State Chapters.

The Saha Cardiovascular Research Center is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2018 Saha Awards for Cardiovascular Research and Education.  The Saha Awards are given to encourage and support staff and students with an interest in and dedication to cardiovascular medicine.

Better delivery of medications to treat opioid use disorder (OUD) is key to addressing the opioid crisis and helping the 2.6 million Americans affected by the disease.

While FDA-approved medications are effective for treating persons with OUD, including buprenorphine, methadone and naltrexone, each has its own unique barriers that impact patient access to care.
