Congratulations to Loka Ashwood, PhD, assistant professor of sociology in the College of Arts & Sciences, for receiving a CHET Just-in-Time award for her project, “Right-to-Farm's Might and Hype: A State-by-State Guide to Understanding and Reforming America's Most Controversial Agricultural Laws.”
Dr. Ashwood's forthcoming book provides the first nationally comprehensive analysis of right-to-farm laws and their associated cases, including a plan for reform in a publicly accessible format, which is crucial to doing environmental justice work in theory and in practice. Information is currently being shared as part of the One Rural initiative. CHET funding for this project will enable Dr. Ashwood and her team to provide open access to the book, which will make their findings readable by any interested community.
