CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

This is a call for applicants for consideration as key personnel in the NIH funded Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) on Obesity and Cardiovascular Diseases (COCVD).  This program facilitates research to define mechanisms linking obesity to associated diseases (diabetes, cancer, etc.), with a focus on obesity-associated cardiovascular diseases.  Eligibility requirements are listed below.  Successful applicants will have a direct costs budget as part of the program, receive mentoring by experts in the field, and have full access to a variety of research support cores.

The primary outcome of the program is for applicants to graduate in the form of obtaining independent Research Project Grant (e.g., an NIH R01) support as Principal Investigator.  Additional requirements of the program will be described by the Program Director (Dr. Lisa Cassis), and appointment to this NIH funded grant program is contingent upon approval by an internal mentoring team, an external advisory committee, and by NIH personnel.

Process

Applicants chosen after initial review of submitted  materials will be required to develop a full NIH proposal, with budget and justification, that relates to the theme of the COCVD.

Eligibility

Applicants who have not previously had independent research support (NIH R01) in the area of obesity and associated diseases are eligible to apply. Junior investigators are especially encouraged to apply.

Application requirements for initial review

1.  Updated NIH biosketch that includes current academic appointment, publications (15 most relevant) and other support.

2.  Specific Aims page (1 page).
