The University of Kentucky College of Medicine Office of Strategic Communications has been nationally recognized by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the foremost professional organization for communication practitioners.

At PRSA’s prestigious Anvil Awards, often referred to as the "Oscars of PR," the UK College of Medicine earned two top honors: a Silver Anvil Award of Excellence for the “Because We Care docuseries and a Bronze Anvil Award of Commendation for “Our Care in Action: A Year in the Life.”

These accolades reflect the high standards of storytelling, strategy, and impact set by the nation’s leading communications professionals. They affirm that the work being done at the UK College of Medicine not only uplifts the voices of our learners, faculty, and staff but also meets the rigorous criteria for excellence on a national stage.

“The purpose of these projects was to show the heart behind our mission — what motivates us, what unites us, and why we do the work we do,” said Lauren Greathouse, assistant dean for communications and strategy.

That ethos served as the foundation for “Because We Care,” a four-part docuseries produced by the Office of Strategic Communications. The series examines the College of Medicine’s evolution from its founding in the late 1950s to its current position as a national leader in medical education, research, and health care innovation. Featuring perspectives from faculty, students, and staff, the docuseries goes beyond statistics and milestones to highlight the people driving progress.

“Our Care in Action: A Year in the Life” is an innovative storytelling project and annual report produced by the same team. The initiative followed 14 individuals from across the college, including medical students, trainees, staff, administrators, and faculty, for a full year. The result was a narrative that’s both intimate and expansive, serving as a reminder that behind every research breakthrough, clinical milestone, or academic achievement is a network of people working with purpose and compassion.
