Working in Internal Medicine Sessions for Empowerment (WISE) are designed to foster a supportive community, provide networking opportunities, and promote insightful discussions. This series aims to empower and connect everyone within our Department of Internal Medicine.Topic for this session: Artificial Intelligence Use in Academic Medicine

This session introduces practical uses of generative AI across clinical, educational, academic, administrative, and personal settings. Examples include supporting clinical reasoning in complex cases; drafting and refining letters of recommendation; scholarly use; developing educational cases; summarizing evaluation data; and creating family travel itineraries.

The session will also address key challenges, including ethical concerns and bias in high-stakes uses (e.g., application review) and the risk of automation bias. Emphasis will be placed on using AI as a support tool while maintaining human judgment and accountability.

Invited panelists include:

Sarah E Vick, MD, SFHM, FACP; Associate Professor; Associate Program Director, IM Residency Program

Dr. Sarah Vick received her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. She did her residency training and chief year at the University of Kentucky. Clinically, she works as a hospitalist and serves as associate program director for the Internal Medicine Residency.

Romil Chadha, MD, MBA, MPH, SFHM, FACP; Chief Medical Information Officer

Dr. Romil Chadha is a professor of internal medicine and Chief Medical Information Officer at UK HealthCare. His work focuses on data-driven operational improvements and advancing clinical informatics.
