Join the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging for the 16th annual Markesbery Symposium on Aging and Dementia, Scientific Session!
Alberto Serrano-Pozo, M.D., Ph.D., (Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center) will deliver the keynote presentation focused on reactive astrogliosis in Alzheimer’s Disease. In addition, University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Director Linda Van Eldik, Ph.D., and Cellas Hayes, Ph.D., will share about lessons learned in Alzheimer’s drug discovery and understanding plasma biomarker heterogeneity.
POSTER COMPETITION
There is a poster competition for outstanding work by students (graduate or undergraduate) and postdocs (PhD or MD trainees/fellows). The student or postdoc must be the presenting (first) author, and must submit the abstract under this person's name. We hope to be able to display staff posters as well, but only trainees are eligible for prizes. Since poster space is limited, please submit your abstract early.
Deadline to submit an abstract is Noon ET on Monday, Oct. 5 via e-mail to Charlotte Wood at charlotte.wood@uky.edu.
Please note that if submitting an abstract you must register here AND submit your abstract to Charlotte by the deadline.

Abstract Preparation Instructions
- See attached template for headings and format. This will be a Word document with Arial 12-point font and one-inch margins on all sides.
- Titles should include authors and affiliations. Submission of an abstract constitutes a commitment to and awareness by all author(s) for studies described within the abstract.
- Prepare abstracts with section headings as Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
- Do not include references in abstracts.
- Include actual data in the form of numerical values, not tables or graphs.
- Include grant support, including grant source and identifying number, at the end of abstract.
- The entire abstract, including title, authors and affiliation, must not exceed 40 lines of text and must fit on a single page.
Poster Preparation Instructions
- Poster tac boards and push pins will be provided. Posters should be no more than 36 inches in height, 44 inches in width.
- Poster should focus on hypothesis, methods, and results/conclusions. Please include reference to grant support (agency/identification number) for funded research.
- Participants will be assigned a poster number before the day of the event. Use this number to locate your space assignment and mount your poster.
- Please mount your poster on your assigned poster board in the Harris Ballroom before 9:45 a.m.
- Poster award presentations will be at 2:45pm. You may remove your poster afterward.
