(Sept. 23, 2020) – Recent work published by researchers at the University of Kentucky’s Sanders-Brown Center on Aging (SBCoA) highlights what the lead investigator calls the “cornerstone” of her lab. Maj-Linda Selenica, assistant professor at SBCoA, led the study recently published in BBA Molecular Basis of Disease.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 23, 2020) – A study led by researchers at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center highlighted differences in patient diagnosis and treatment in those with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) across the state of Kentucky. Recently published in PLOS One, the study used Kentucky Cancer Registry patient data from 2007-2011 to identify trends in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation testing and the usage of the EGFR inhibitor, erlotinib. EGFR mutations are common in NSCLC.

The UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health, in conjunction with the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department for Public Health and Deloitte, hosted a virtual Contact Tracing Engagement event on September 22, 2020.

Mark Carter, Executive Director of the Kentucky Contact Tracing effort, provided a brief overview of the Contact Tracing process, expanded on communication efforts across the Commonwealth, and followed up with a Q&A session.

RSNA, ACR and SIIM urge radiologists and allied professionals to use the guidance below to help ensure that no protected health information (PHI) exists in their presentations. Organizations that may host such content should ensure that it is appropriately de-identified.

Meredith Landorf, MD, recently began a leadership role as assistant dean for the University of Kentucky College of Medicine-Northern Kentucky Campus. Through this position she will oversee and build upon the third- and fourth-year clerkships while promoting the regional campus’s mission of educating physicians in Kentucky for Kentucky. Dr. Landorf is also a practicing physician in Edgewood, Ky.

Xiaoquin (Jennifer) Wang, MD, from the Division of Women’s imaging has arranged a research agreement with an artificial intelligence company, Bunkerhill Medical. BunkerHill is a Y Combinator-backed startup out of Stanford University’s Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI) center.

Responsible Conduct of Research or RCR is, according to an NIH definition, "the practice of scientific investigation with integrity. It involves the awareness and application of established professional norms and ethical principles for all activities related to scientific research." Our Vice President of Research, Lisa Cassis, has mandated that all faculty and students who, in anyway, are involved in research take this training. Similarly, Robert S. DiPaola, MD, Dean of the College of Medicine also has asked faculty and trainees to take this training.
