The Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (SESPRS) announced in November the launch of a Visiting Professor Program beginning in 2018. The professors selected to represent SESPRS in the inaugural year of the program are Henry Vasconez, MD, the William S. Farish Endowed Chair of Plastic Surgery at the University of Kentucky and Bruce Shack, MD, Dean of the University of Tennessee’s College of Medicine in Chattanooga.

Drs. Vasconez and Shack, nationally recognized surgeons and educators in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, have also served terms as President of SESPRS. Each has a respected track record in all facets of surgical training and academic medicine. As the inaugural SESPRS Visiting Professors, they are available to be booked for Plastic Surgery residency programs and regional society meetings to talk with peers on a wide range of subjects.

In addition to presenting updates on Craniomaxillofacial Trauma, Cleft Lip Rhinoplasty, and the Effects of Obesity on Adipose-Derived Stem Cells, Dr. Vasconez is also available for general talks on the following: History of Plastic Surgery; Craniofacial Surgery – A UK Perspective; Analysis of Facial Aesthetics; The Evolution of Dakin’s Solution and Treatment of War Injuries; and many others.

Dr. Shack is available to talk on new innovations in Vaginal Reconstruction and Body Contouring After Massive Weight Loss.

Both professors are available to weigh in on key elements of Plastic Surgery education from the perspective of educators as well as to potential applicants in medical schools.

SESPRS is now accepting applications for its Visiting Professors Program. The society requires that the program hosts be active SESPRS members and that the institution be an ACGME accredited program. Visits are generally expected to be two days in duration and be centered on “residents/residency programs or local plastic surgery societies.”

For other requirements and guidelines, please visit the SESPRS Visiting Professor program website.
