Hannah McDonald, MD, a general surgery resident, earned her doctorate in clinical and translational science after a successful dissertation defense on May 15.
Dr. McDonald began her residency in general surgery at the University of Kentucky in 2019. After completing her third program year, she opted to devote two years to surgical research under the mentorship of Joseph Kim, MD, division chief of surgical oncology, in his laboratory.
The Kim Laboratory at the University of Kentucky is focused on developing and analyzing new treatments for gastrointestinal cancers.
After two years of coursework and dedicated basic and translational research, Dr. McDonald submitted and defended her dissertation, “Evaluation of the Cellular and Physiologic Impact of Mitomycin C on Colon Cancer.”
“She gave a world-class presentation,” Dr. Kim commented.
