Earlier this year, William “Bill” Stoops, PhD, William R. Willard Professor in Behavioral Science, was honored with the MED Associates Brady-Schuster Award. This award, the highest recognition from APA Division 28 — now rebranded as the Society for Psychopharmacology and Substance Use — is among the most significant honors in the field. Named for pioneering scientists Joseph V. Brady and Charles R. Schuster, the award carries a distinguished legacy. It is reserved for researchers whose work has deepened our understanding of substance use and the behavioral mechanisms that shape psychopharmacological science.

"I was very surprised to learn I had received the MED Associates Brady-Schuster Award when considering the luminaries it is named after and the influential scientists who have previously received it — I certainly had not counted myself as being deserving of joining that group,” expressed Dr. Stoops.

“I'm deeply thankful to Division 28 and to my nominator, my mentors, mentees, colleagues, and collaborators who have all contributed positively to my career and without whom this would not have been possible."

Congratulations, Dr. Stoops!
