Biography and Education
Education
Special Interest: Neurorehabilitation, Spasticity Management, Movement Disorders, Cancer Rehabilitation.
Dr. Salles received a B.A. in Biology with a certificate in French from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri and received her D.O. from the Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences. She completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Kentucky and is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with subspecialty training in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. Dr. Salles re-joined the faculty in July 2004.
CLINICAL
Dr. Salles is the Medical Director of the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital. She is the Medical Director of the outpatient PM&R clinic at the University of Kentucky Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Her clinical interests include spinal cord injury medicine, burn rehabilitation, and movement disorders to include management of Deep Brain Stimulators spasticity management, and cancer rehabilitation. She also serves as the Medical Director of post-acute care services for the University of Kentucky.
RESEARCH
Dr. Salles received the department award for “Best Research Plan” as a faculty member in 2005. She has been an investigator with publication in numerous studies including Body Composition in Multiple Sclerosis, FMRI in Stroke Recovery, Data mining in Parkinson’s Disease and functional outcomes in Posterior Cerebral Artery Stroke. She has served as co-investigator in multiple SCI related studies taking place both at the University of Kentucky as well as Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital. She continues to remain active in clinical research and serves as a mentor to medical students and residents who are interested in, or participating in a research project. She remains active in the department’s research committee.
EDUCATION
Dr. Salles is actively involved in the education of PM&R residents, Interventional Pain Fellows and training of PA and medical Students. She is involved with the PM&R lecture series and serves on the department’s education and residency recruitment committee. She currently serves as the Chair of the Clinical Competency Committee for the Department of PM&R. Dr. Salles was awarded the “Teacher of the Year” award in 2004 while at Harvard Medical School/Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital as well as in 2005, 2011, and 2014 since here at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Salles is the Osteopathic Director of Medical Education for the University of Kentucky.
