Biography and Education

Biography

Dr. Mohammadmoradi has meticulously sculpted a career in the realms of vascular biology, molecular biology, and platelet physiology. This journey, marked by an unwavering dedication to understanding the intricate interplay between platelet function and aortopathies, has positioned Dr. Mohammadmoradi as a pioneering figure in cardiovascular research. With an ambitious vision to spearhead an independent research program at a leading academic institution, Dr. Mohammadmoradi is committed to breaking new ground in the study of cardiovascular diseases. The ultimate goal is to establish a cutting-edge research platform that unites the domains of vascular biology and platelet function, thereby catalyzing groundbreaking discoveries in cardiovascular disease and fostering the development of novel therapeutic approaches for pathologies where effective pharmaceutical interventions are still lacking.

Dr. Mohammadmoradi's academic odyssey has been characterized by significant milestones, including a transformative phase of enhanced learning in vascular biology and basic science acumen. A pivotal moment in this journey was the opportunity to join Dr. Alan Daugherty's esteemed research group for doctoral training, a period during which Dr. Mohammadmoradi significantly expanded his expertise in disease models and honed essential skills ranging from experimental design to data interpretation and scientific communication.

Following doctoral studies, Dr. Mohammadmoradi continued their academic pursuit at the University of Kentucky, embarking on postdoctoral training in Dr. Sidney Whiteheart's prestigious laboratory. This phase of training has been instrumental in broadening Dr. Mohammadmoradi's proficiency in platelet biology, simultaneously fostering a comprehensive perspective on cardiovascular diseases that synergizes both vascular biology and platelet function. The rich and diverse training during this fellowship, combined with previous doctoral experiences, uniquely equips Dr. Mohammadmoradi to create a nexus between these two critical areas in cardiovascular research.

Education

  • B.S. - Science and Research Branch, IAU, Iran
  • M.S. - Department of Pharmacology and Nutritional Science, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, USA
  • Ph.D. - Saha Cardiovascular Research Center, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, USA

Research

The laboratory, under Dr. Whiteheart's guidance, is at the forefront of exploring platelet exocytosis mechanics and the roles of key proteins such as α-synuclein, cysteine string protein, the Exocyst Complex, and various VAMP proteins. Utilizing secretion-deficient mouse models, the team investigates the critical role of platelet exocytosis in different injury contexts and pathologies, notably in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA).

Dr. Mohammadmoradi's research focuses on elucidating the impact of defective platelet functions in the onset of AAA and aortic dissections. He has established innovative protocols for aortic studies and generated valuable preliminary data using VAMP 8 deficient mice bred in the lab. His work includes mastering a range of ex vivo assays, encompassing secretion from platelet granules, aggregation, clot contraction using a novel, patent-pending system, adhesion under flow conditions, FACS analysis of integrin activation, and intraplatelet calcium measurements. These techniques facilitate a thorough examination of platelet phenotypes from various animal models.
