About Molly Powney, MD
Hi! I’m Molly! I’m originally from West Virginia and am excited to be continuing my training in the region as a Med-Peds resident at the University of Kentucky.
Professional Interests
My professional interests include rural and underserved medicine, preventive and lifestyle medicine. I am undecided in my future career path and am open to exploring outpatient, dual hospitalist, or pursing a fellowship path potentially in Allergy and Immunology but open to other specialties.
Learner Summary
Why did you choose the University of Kentucky?
I chose the University of Kentucky because it offered the combination of excellent clinical training, a strong Med-Peds community, and opportunities to care for patients from both urban and rural communities. I felt very welcomed during interview season and appreciated how well-connected the residents I met seemed with each other. To someone coming from a smaller town in WV, Lexington is a larger city with plenty of things to do but still seemed manageable for me.
What do you like about your program?
I really appreciate how welcoming and supportive everyone in the Med-Peds program is. I was looking for a program where I could receive strong training in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics while also having a close-knit group of co-residents and approachable faculty in a mid-sized city. I also really value the variety of clinical experiences and the opportunities to care for a diverse patient population.
What are your hobbies?
Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time outdoors camping, hiking, fishing, kayaking. On my weekends off, I enjoy traveling, trying new restaurants and spending time with friends and family including my dog. I also enjoy staying active and exploring everything Lexington and the surrounding area have to offer.
