Why did you choose the University of Kentucky?

As someone that has attended the University of Kentucky for my undergraduate education, medical school, and residency, I initially chose the University of Kentucky in high school and then have reselected it every step of the way. I was raised in Mayfield, KY which is a small town in western Kentucky. I love that Lexington is a big enough city that there is plenty to do but still maintains the small town feel that I grew up with. Living in Lexington has allowed me the space to live and study independently, while still offering access to my family that lives else where in the state within a few hours drive.

What do you like about your program?

At UK's medical school I was able to get a strong understanding of what the Department of Family and Community Medicine had to offer, and what I saw was a collection of physicians that I intend to model the way I practice medicine after. I felt comfortable with the faculty, staff, and residents I worked with which is paramount to fostering a learning environment that allows you to take the necessary steps as you progress through residency. It was also very important to me that I felt as if I was a part of the community that I was treating, and I feel the program allows me the opportunities to make that a reality.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy both watching and playing sports. My favorite teams are UK football, UK basketball, and the Miami Dolphins, but I will watch almost any type of athletics. I like to play basketball, soccer, golf, disc golf, pickle ball, and volleyball. I also enjoy going for regular runs and hiking different National Parks. I like to try new things including new beers at different craft breweries in the area. I enjoy cooking, although I wouldn't say I am particularly good at it. There is seldom a time when I am doing things around the house or driving somewhere when I do not have a podcast on.
