Dr. Darwin Conwell is a distinguished physician and academic leader who currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky (UK) College of Medicine. Dr. Conwell's journey in medicine has been deeply influenced by his upbringing in Appalachia, and he has expressed a strong commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes for underserved populations, particularly in rural areas. His research and clinical work have focused on chronic pancreatitis, diabetes, and pancreatic cancer, with a special interest in the interrelationship between these diseases. Dr. Conwell is also known for his dedication to mentoring the next generation of physicians and researchers, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and addressing health inequities in the medical field.
