Josh Steiner, MD, FACS, FASMBS, director of weight loss surgery at UK HealthCare, announced that the program has received national accreditation under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint quality initiative of the American College of Medicine (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
Dr. Steiner and Mary Beth Keaton, BSN, RN, nurse manager of UK Weight Loss Surgery, first announced the accreditation at a UK HealthCare Systems Operations update in mid-September.
The MBSAQIP is a comprehensive, nationwide surgical quality program that focuses on a program’s record of outcomes in weight loss and the treatment of obesity-related diseases such as diabetes and sleep apnea.
"Accreditation from the ACS and ASMBS is further evidence that the weight loss surgery program meets the highest standards of quality and safety in its OR procedures and long-term outcomes," Dr. Steiner said. "Our surgical team is outstanding and deserves full credit for UK achieving this recognition."
As an MBSAQIP-accredited hospital, UK also becomes an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. This distinction signifies UK HealthCare’s dedication to consistent improvement in surgical care for its patients.
