Bluegrass Hospitality Group (BHG) is holding a raffle this September with a Hawaii vacation or $10,000 in cash as the prize. Proceeds will benefit the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center’s Ovarian Cancer Screening Program.
Raffle tickets cost $50 each and are on sale through Sept. 30. The winner will be announced Oct. 5 and notified by phone. The winner can choose between two prizes: a Hawaii vacation package or $10,000 in cash. Tickets can be purchased at the raffle website, where more information about the raffle and its rules is also available.
“Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month means so much to our BHG family as we honor the memory of my sister, Megan McCarty Green, and stand alongside the individuals and families affected by this devastating disease,” said Brian McCarty, co-founder of BHG. “We are grateful for the opportunity to come together with our community and create these two unique opportunities to raise awareness, give back, and support the important work the UK Markey Cancer Center Ovarian Cancer Screening Program is doing to make a difference in the lives of women and families.”
Ovarian cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths among women. When caught early, it is treatable and can be curable. The Markey Cancer Center Ovarian Screening Program provides free annual sonographic screenings to women across Kentucky, aiming to detect ovarian cancer in its earliest stages, when treatment tends to work best.
The program began in 1987 as a research study led by longtime Markey gynecologic oncologist John van Nagell, M.D., in partnership with the UK College of Medicine. Since then, more than 55,000 women have taken part in the program, receiving more than 392,000 free transvaginal sonography screens. Published results show fewer deaths from ovarian cancer among women enrolled in the program.
